Catchup
Overview |

Board |
Catchup is played on a hexagonal board with five cells per side. Larger boards can be used for a deeper game. |
Object of the Game |
The winner of the game is the player with the largest group of stones when the game ends (group of stones is a set of same-colored stones touching each other). If the players’ largest groups are the same size, whoever has more groups of that size wins. If this is also tied, compare the players' second-largest groups, and so on, until you come to a pair which aren’t the same size. Whoever owns the larger of the two wins. |
Play |
The game begins with an empty board. There are two players in the game: White and Black. White begins by placing 1 white stone on any empty space. From then on, starting with black, players take turns. On your turn, you may place 1 or 2 stones, or up to 3 if your opponent’s largest group increased on their last turn and is, at the beginning of your turn, greater than or equal to your largest group. Creating a new group of size 1 does not count as increasing that group. The game ends when the board is full. |
