Board |
Gonnect is usually played on a 13x13 or 15x15 board. It can also be played on a standard Go board (19x19). |
Object of the Game |
The goal of Gonnect is to form a chain of your stones connected either horizontally or vertically, linking any two opposite edges of the board. Corners are considered to be part of both adjoining edges. A player also wins the game if his opponent has no legal moves. No draws are possible in Gonnect. |
Play |
The game begins with an empty board. Each player has an allocated color: Black or White. Starting with Black, players take turns placing a stone of their color on one of the empty intersections of the board. Since the first player has a distinct advantage, the pie rule is used to make the game fair. This rule allows the second player to switch colors after the first player makes his first move. All the rules of Go apply (including capturing stones, the Ko rule and the prohibition of suicide moves), except passing is not allowed. A suicide move cannot be made even if it would result in the creation of a winning chain. |
