Lielow is played on a square board. The standard game uses an 8x8 board, while a 9x9 variant is also available. There are two players: Blue and Red. Each player has a supply of stackable checkers of their color and one crown token.
On the 8x8 board, each player begins with eight stacks of one checker each. The Blue stacks are placed on the 2nd row and the Red stacks on the 7th row. On the 9x9 board, each player begins with eighteen stacks of one checker each. The Blue stacks are placed on the 1st and 3rd rows and the Red stacks on the 7th and 9th rows. There are no kings in either starting position. |
| Objective |
|
A player wins by capturing the opponent's king or when the opponent is forced to move their own king off the board. Lielow has no draws. |

Starting with Blue, players take turns moving one of their own stacks. Passing is not allowed. Movement A stack moves in a straight line, orthogonally or diagonally, through exactly as many cells as there are checkers in the stack. A crown token is not counted as a checker when determining this distance. Stacks may jump over any other stacks.
Landing
Moving off the Board A stack may move off the board and is then removed from the game.
Crowns and Kings If a move creates a uniquely tallest stack for a player, that player places their crown token on that stack and the stack becomes a new king. Otherwise, the crown remains at its current place. When a king moves, its crown moves with it. When a king captures, its stack is reduced to one checker. If another stack is now taller than all the player's other stacks, it becomes the new king. If the tallest stacks are tied, the capturing stack remains the king.
